Winfield City High School is known for its academic prowess in the State of Alabama and is recognized by the U.S. News. The News site recognizes the Top 25 in the state each year, with Winfield moving up 22 spots to number 22 on this year’s rankings.

U.S. News’ public high school rankings are based on student test scores for math, reading, and science. Top-ranked schools also had “strong underserved student performance, college readiness, and curriculum breadth, as well as high graduation rates. College readiness specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exam,” according to the news press release.

Winfield City Schools Superintendent Randy Thomley spoke of the hard work and dedication it takes to be a Top 25 school.

“I think the ranking is a direct reflection of the dedication and hard work of our students and families, teachers, support personnel, administration, board members, and civic leaders,” said Thomley. “We are a family in Winfield.  It takes everyone working together towards the greater good to be successful.”

“Oftentimes, there are, like with most families, disagreements along with the journey.  However, the union of working through the good and bad to provide the very best for our children is a testimony to this success. This is a celebration of Winfield,” Thomley said.

Winfield City High School Principal Dr. Adam Aldridge was proud of the accomplishment and praised the faculty and staff.

“As the principal and alumnus, I am incredibly proud that Winfield City High School has earned this distinction,” said Aldridge. “ It reflects the tremendous efforts of our administration, faculty and staff, student body, and the Winfield community.”
“Winfield City Schools have always embodied the motto ‘A Tradition of Excellence,’ and this recognition supports our efforts to meet this standard.”

“The 2024 Best High Schools rankings offer a starting point for parents to understand a school’s academic performance, whether it’s a prospective school or one that their child is already attending,” said LaMont Jones, managing editor of education at U.S. News. “Accessible data on our high schools can empower families across the country as they navigate today’s educational environment and plan for the future.”
