Beginning with the 2025-2026, school systems will be subject to a new law that removes most local discretion over student cell phone use and implements new requirements regarding internet safety. The Freeing Of Classrooms of Unnecessary Screens for Safety (FOCUS) Act was passed with the stated goals of improving student focus, addressing mental health concerns tied to social media, and creating greater statewide consistency in how schools manage technology during the school day.
