We are pleased to welcome Sgt. Steve Thompson as the School Resource Officer at Winfield City Schools for the 2024-2025 school year. Sgt. Thompson has 33 years of experience in law enforcement and has spent the last 5 years in Winfield. Sgt. Thompson just completed NASRO, the National Association of School Resource Officers, training in Opelika that certified him as a School Resource Officer as well as other school safety training. Sgt. Thompson has been married to his wife Jane for the last 11 years and has a daughter Courtney, a stepdaughter Sarajane, and a stepson, Peter. He also has 6 grandsons ranging from 11 years to newborn twins. “I never really imagined myself doing this as I started in law enforcement,” said Sgt. Thompson. “Since I have been here at Winfield City Schools it has been an enjoyable experience working here and being around the kids.” Winfield City Schools is very thankful to the Winfield Police Department for all they do to keep our schools safe.


Thank you Winfield Alumni Association for the generous donation to help with start up expenses for our new cosmetology program.


The Winfield City Board of Education received the school board member academy team training achievement award for their continuous professional development training.

The Pirate Spotlight for 2024-2025 is back and begins, today. Mrs. Simmons and Mr. Thomley are hoisting the sails by discussing current projects and future developments that are being curated by our ambitious faculty and staff at WCS. "The City" is all a buzz. Tune-in!


We are pleased to welcome Chelsea O’Dell as a Kindergarten teacher at Winfield Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. O’Dell has three years of experience teaching kindergarten at Fayette Elementary School. Teaching is a second career for her, as she has also been a stay-at-home mom/substitute teacher, and before that, I worked as a paralegal at a law & tax firm for six years. She is married to her Husband Case O’Dell and they have two children Blair and Mary Margaret.
“I graduated from Winfield High School and am honored to be returning to teach kindergarten,” said O’Dell. “Our family worships at Winfield Church of Christ and we look forward to becoming more involved with the community.”


A resolution was adopted today by the Winfield City Board of Education honoring Coach Brad Cunningham for receiving the AHSAA “Making A Difference” award. Congratulations to Coach Cunningham!


We are pleased to welcome Merritt Muck as a 5th-grade teacher at Winfield Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year. She is also going to be an Assistant Track Coach. Miss Muck holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of North Alabama.
Miss Muck has two years of teaching experience at Haleyville Elementary School. She spends her time with her two dogs, Arlo and Mistletoe.
“I am so excited to be coming back to my Alma Mater and having the opportunity to work in the school system that contributed so much to my success,” said Muck “I hope to make a difference in the lives of every student that I encounter in my teaching and coaching career.”


Due to construction, WES car riders in grades K-4 will be picked up in the front of the school today and tomorrow. On Thursday, August 15, 4th grade students will be picked up at their original location, which is beside the track for the rest of the school year.

Due to construction, ALL WES car riders will be picked up in the front of the school today. This will be a daily notification until construction is complete.

Picture Day for Winfield Middle School will be Tuesday, August 20th. Picture proofs will go home with each student as soon as they are available.


Substitute Bus Drivers - Winfield City Schools is looking for qualified substitute bus drivers or individuals interested in becoming a certified bus driver. Interested applicants can contact Alan Smith at 205-546-0561.
