First graders, this year, will be inspired and educated by the LUCKY SEVEN! Welcome back students-WCS/WES

Congratulations to Devin Taylor for having a 100% pass rate on the AP Computer Science test from the 2021-2022 school year. The previous year, Devin had the highest pass rate out of all the A+ College Ready Schools in the state, for which she received an award.

Thank you to the Winfield Police Department for being on campus and greeting our students on the first day of school.

6th Grade Students: The Winfield Band Program be hosting our Instrument Fitting event for students interested in joining band TONIGHT from 5-8 PM in the middle school band room! We will have each student try out every instrument and parents will have an opportunity to get their student’s instrument through Gadsden Music’s rental program. Please Email emassey@winfied.k12.al.us or lsemmes@winfield.k12.al.us if you have any questions or if you can't make it to the event. We will happily find another date for your student to try instruments!

Winfield City High School will host an Open House on Tuesday, August 9 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Ninth grade orientation will be at 5:30 p.m. in the commons.

High School students - if you applied for the dual enrollment CTE or STEM scholarship you need to check your email for an award letter. Today is the deadline to accept the scholarship.

Winfield City School Parents: Applications for Free & Reduced-Priced Meal Benefits for 2022-2023 school year are now open! The federal government has not extended the program that provided no-charge school meals for all students for the past two years. Therefore, families must complete an application to determine eligibility for free & reduced-price meals. If you completed an application prior to July 1, 2022, you must complete a new application for the upcoming school year. APPLY NOW FOR FREE & REDUCED MEALS FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR The Winfield City Child Nutrition Program has enjoyed the opportunity to feed all our students breakfast and lunch at no cost the past two year, but unfortunately current USDA guidance will not allow this to continue. The USDA waivers that have allowed us to serve free meals to ALL students during the past school year, expired June 30, 2022. Unless these waivers are extended or new USDA waivers are approved, we will not be able to offer meals at no cost to ALL students in the 2022-2023 school year. However, students that qualify will be able to receive free and reduced meals based on eligibility (as we have in the past). If a 2021-2022 Free & Reduced Meal Application was completed and approved before June 30, 2022 for the 2021-2022 school year, their eligibility will roll over into the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year (or until a new application is completed). A new application MUST be completed each year to determine continuing eligibility for the new school year. 2022-2023 Free & Reduced Meal Applications will be available online Monday, July 18, 2022. Paper applications will also be included in student packets provided at each schools’ open house. You only need to complete 1 application per household. If you are directly certified through the State of Alabama you do not need to fill out an application. To apply online you can go to www.winfield.k12.al.us/applynow.
