At the June 28th school board meeting, the district calendar was amended with the following changes. The Fall Festival is moved from October 20, 2022 to Spring Fling April 27, 2023 and this day will be a 60% student/Extended day. A virtual day will be added for students on September 6, 2022. Graduation will be moved to Friday, May 19, 2023. The change in graduation date was to help encourage more graduating students to enroll in summer offerings if they choose a college pathway. Parents, we have enjoyed serving all our students’ breakfast and lunch at no-cost for the past two years, but current guidance from USDA will not allow us to serve free meals to all students in the 2022-2023 school year. Full paying students will pay $1.25 for breakfast and $2.60 for lunch. I would like to encourage you to fill out our online free and reduced application for your family. Any free and reduced application completed in 2021-2022 will continue receiving free/reduced meals for the first 30 days into the 2022-2023 school year. New applications must be complete each school year unless your student qualifies through direct certification on July 1, 2022 and after. New applications for the 2022-2023 can be completed August 1, 2022 for the new school year. There are 3 ways to qualify for free/reduced meals. 1. Approved through direct certification if you receive SNAP, TANF or Medicaid. This does not require you to fill out an application 2. Complete an online application by going to www.winfield.k12.al.us/applynow 3. Or through a paper application that will be sent home with every student at the beginning of the school year. Please remember that info received from these applications is directly tied to some of our district’s grant funding. You can easily complete the application at www.winfield.k12.al.us/applynow. If you have any questions you can call me at 1-205-487-0228 or email me at smccaleb@winfield.k12.al.us.
