What an incredible day we had at our first annual Friendship Field Day! While we had to make a last-minute decision to move everything inside due to the weather, our faculty and staff stepped up in a big way and made it happen seamlessly. Because of their flexibility and dedication, our students still experienced a day full of joy, inclusion, and success.
This event would not have been possible without the overwhelming support from our community. We are so thankful for the generosity shown through donations from Diane Letson, Kallie and David Woodley, Southern Women’s Society, James and Jessica Garner, Edward Jones, Mosaic United Women of Faith, WES PTO, Tombigbee, Rachel Perry with Perry Real Estate, Winfield Water Department, and other anonymous donors. Your support made a direct impact on our students.
A special thank you to Icey Gator for supplying snow cones and to Pepsi for providing drinks for our students and volunteers. We are also incredibly grateful to Winfield Parks and Recreation for making our signs, supplying tables and chairs, and helping with both setup and cleanup.
We want to recognize one of our own students, Kellen McCaleb, for going above and beyond by 3D printing sensory items for each student’s goody bag. That act of kindness truly represents the spirit of this event.
Thank you to Winfield Middle School administration and faculty for their flexibility and support as we adjusted schedules and utilized their facilities. We also appreciate our WCS peer helpers and student volunteers who worked so hard to assist throughout the day.
A big thank you to Kevin Garner for donating his DJ services and keeping the energy high all day long!
To our Winfield City Schools administration, faculty, and staff, along with community members and retired teachers who helped set up, work, and clean up, your willingness to serve our students does not go unnoticed.
Most importantly, this day was a success because of our amazing students from Winfield, Berry, and Hubbertville. Seeing their smiles, participation, and joy made every bit of effort worthwhile.
We truly had an amazing time and are already looking forward to next year!

The funding came through the Opioid Kinship Project, a targeted initiative administered by the Area on Aging (AAA) in partnership with the Alabama Department of Senior Services. This one-time grant program is specifically designed to assist families in which grandparents or other older relatives have stepped into caregiving roles due to parental
substance disorder- a growing issue impacting communities across Alabama and the nation.
For many kinship caregivers, the transition into raising children again comes with unexpected financial strain. Recognizing this need, Woodis and Norris worked diligently to identify eligible families and guide them through the application process, ensuring they could access this critical support. The funds were distributed directly to meet urgent and practical needs. Families used the assistance for essential expenses such as car repairs to maintain reliable
transportation, home repairs to ensure safe living conditions, clothing for growing children, gas cards for daily travel, and payment of utility bills. These resources provided not just financial relief, but also stability during a time of significant adjustment.
The partnership highlights the importance of local leadership and cross-agency cooperation in addressing complex social challenges. By leveraging available resources and focusing on the well- being of students and their caregivers, Woodis and Norris have made a meaningful impact on the lives of these families-helping ensure that children in kinship care situations continue to have the support they need to succeed both at home and in school. Their efforts serve as a reminder that when communities come together with purpose, even limited, one-time funding opportunities can create lasting positive change.

April 20–24 is National Student Leadership Week, and today Winfield City High School is proud to spotlight HOSA, sponsored by Mrs. Brittany Behel!

Our HOSA officers play an essential role in building leadership, teamwork, and a spirit of service within their chapter. From organizing events and leading meetings to encouraging personal and professional growth, they set the standard for excellence in health science education.
We are proud of their commitment to guiding their peers, fostering collaboration, and making a positive impact in both our school and the community. 💙
