We are pleased to welcome Blair Sheffield as a World History II and U.S. History I and an assistant football coach at Winfield City High School for the 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Sheffield got his degree in Social Studies Education from Mississippi State University. He has 25 years’ experience all in the Itawamba County School District in Mississippi. He and his wife Suzanne have three children Sydney (Son-in-Law Jimmy), Katie, and Riley.

We are pleased to welcome Meg Weeks as a Speech-Language Pathologist at Winfield Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Weeks a 2019 graduate of Winfield City High School earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Montevallo. Mrs. Weeks is beginning her first year in education. She is married to Brenton Weeks who is a 2017 graduate of Winfield City High School, and he currently studies at UAB School of Optometry, and she has a dog named Diva.
“I am so excited to be back in my hometown and home school as the new Speech-Language Pathologist,” said Weeks. “I graduated from Winfield City High School in 2019 where I was the salutatorian of the graduating class, and I was also a member of the cheerleading and women's golf teams.”
“After high school, I attended the University of Montevallo and earned my Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders in May of 2021. I then returned to The University of Montevallo the following fall to complete of Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. I graduated with my M.S. in May 2023 and was recognized as the SLP Outstanding Graduate Student for the 2023 cohort. I am passionate about everything speech, language, and communication and am so happy to be home serving the community that is so special to me. I look forward to a great school year! And remember: ‘Communication is for everyone’!”

We are pleased to welcome Kelly Beverley as a Reading Intervention Specialist at Winfield Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Beverley holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama, and a Master’s degree from the University of West Alabama in Elementary Education. Mrs. Beverley has 21 years’ experience in education in the Tuscaloosa County School System, all in the 5th grade. She is married to Keith Beverley and has three children, Tab (23) Colin (17, and a senior at WCHS), and Ridge (10, a 5th grader at WMS). Mrs. Beverley quoted John C. Maxwell saying “Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

The 2023 athletic year begins next week as the our Pirates host the Dora Bulldogs at Estes Hudson Stadium on Thursday, August 24. We want to fill the stadium with Pirate fans, and to help do this, we will be allowing students in grades K-12 to attend free of charge. Like last year, students will receive a student sport pass which allows them to enter all home athletic contests (football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball) with the exception of postseason play. We encourage all of our students to attend home events to show their school spirit and support their peers.

We are pleased to welcome Christie Nix as a Special Education Aide at Winfield Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Nix attended Bevill State Community College and has worked as a substitute for Winfield City Schools for the last two years. She is married to James (Dobber) Nix and they have two sons, Tyde (a Sophomore At WCHS) and Draper (a second grader at WES).
“I am excited about this new adventure,” said Nix. “My family has been part of the Pirate family since 2015, when our oldest son was enrolled into third grade. I have been a substitute for Winfield City Schools for the last two years. During those two years, I have spent working that time as an aide. I feel that working as an aide and assisting the teachers with the students is such a rewarding experience.”

We are pleased to welcome Jenny Trull as an 3rd grade teacher at Winfield Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Trull earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Alabama. She also earned her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama. Mrs. Trull is going into her tenth year in Education. She is married to Ross Trull and has three children Brooks (8), Thomas (6), and Beckett (4).

We are pleased to welcome Billy Stovall as an 8th grade World History and Computer Science teacher at Winfield Middle School. Mr. Stovall earned his Bachelor of Science from Faulkner University. He has two years of experience, all in the Winfield City School System. Mr. Stovall came to Winfield City Schools and the education profession after a long career in business & industry. He spent over a decade in the IT world as a programmer (Cavalier Homes) and as an IT Director (Jasper Lumber Company). He is a partner and proprietor of multiple Two Men and A Truck moving franchises, where he spent several years as a franchise managing member. While Mr. Stovall is a proud graduate of Hubbertville High School, his wife Karla and both his sons, Austin and Andrew are Winfield graduates. He has been a Winfield resident and Pirate since 1995, the year he and Karla were married. He is beyond excited to now be teaching in the Winfield City School System.

Big News! Breakfast and lunch will be free for all Winfield City Schools students in 2023-24 school year!

We are pleased to welcome Andy Cantrell as U.S. History teacher at Winfield City High School for the 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Cantrell has a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University in Secondary Education, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi. Mr. Cantrell is a 26-year veteran in education with stops at Aberdeen High School, East Amory Elementary School, Amory Career and Technical Center, Tupelo Public School district in the Central Office, and Amory School District in Central Office, all in Mississippi.
Mr. Cantrell is married to his wife of 36-years Kendal and he has two sons, Reece (age 20) and Brooks (age 11).
“It’s a pleasure to join such a highly successful and well-rounded school district,” said Cantrell.

SUMMER P-EBT CARDS IMPORTANT NOTICE
The final round of Summer P-EBT benefits in the amount of $120 has been issued by DHR as of
Wednesday night 8/09/2023 early Thursday morning (8/10/2023).
The funds will be listed as pending, when the parent calls the number on the back of the card (for those
who still have them on hand).
The funds will be accessible to actually use on Saturday (8/12/2023).
Data sharing of eligible students:
ALSDE IT submitted 526,122 students names to Alabama DHR on the evening of June 8, 2023.
This file included students who were eligible (free, free dc snap, dc snap extended, Medicaid-free,
Medicaid-reduced, reduced and all students enrolled at a CEP and Provision 1 school) as of the close of
SY2022-2023.
Those also included graduates who actually graduated at the end of the school year (no early year
graduates).
All other students must have been in active enrolled status at the close of the school year to be eligible
(no early withdrawals).
How will the benefits load on the CARDS or CARDS being issued?
If benefits were received for the Summer of SY2021-2022, then the benefits will load to that card.
If card was never received, then a new card will be issued.
If a new card is issued, then it would be mailed to address that is in the ALSDE Student Management
System (AIMS)…receipt of card will be dependent on local mailing timeframe.
If any information has changed since the issuance of the last card, it will generate a new card.

We are pleased to welcome Sarah Wooten as Special Education teacher at Winfield Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Wooten has a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in Elementary Education. I am currently pursuing my Alternative A master's degree in Special Education K-6 from the University of West Alabama. Mrs. Wooten 2 years’ experience in the special education field and I have 8 years’ experience in the pre-k/early childhood field. She is married to Matthew Wooten and has a daughter Presley who is six years old.
“I was born and raised here in this great community of Winfield. After I graduated high school, I moved to Tuscaloosa to further my education,” said Wooten. “I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and worked in the pre-k setting.”
“I met my husband, Matthew, and we got married in 2014. Our little girl, Presley Kay, was born in 2017. We stayed in the Tuscaloosa area until 2021, when I knew in my heart it was time to come back home,” said Wooten.
“I got a job at WES as a special education aide and over the past 2 years, I have learned so much and have become very passionate about special education. I am so excited to start this new journey at Winfield Middle School and look forward to getting to know all my new students and their families. Go Pirates!”
